Montagne Jeunesse Face Mask

As I'm sure you know I recently received my 2012 Holiday VoxBox from Influenster and I got a bunch a fun goodies to try. Last night I was beat and decided to have a mini facial night in which I tried the Montagne Jeunesse Face Mask in Aloe & Willow that I received from Influenster.
Disclaimer: I received this item complimentary for testing purposes from Infuenster. My opinions are my own and no one is paying me to say anything or give said opinions. This is all me.
So, as it says, it is aloe vera & willow, and it's a deep cleansing mask. On the back it says that it's a blend of aloe vera, willow, rosemary and witch hazel and it targets your problem areas naturally for a clear complexion. The instructions for use are also on the back; Cleanse, Apply, Relax 10-15 minutes, and Rinse. Pretty basic mud mask. And yeah, I do realize just how freaky the model on the front looks. They may want to consider a different look for their packaging.
So that's the basics on the product. Here's my experience with it. I cleansed my face, tore the mask open and applied.

EEEK!!!
So I applied the mask and waited 15 minutes. It started drying pretty quickly and it seriously hardened. Like, it was a little on the uncomfortable side, tbh. I have no idea how that model could have kept her creeper grin on because I could barely open my mouth once this started hardening.

So after the unpleasant experience of wearing the mask I rinsed it off with warm water. It came off easily with water leaving my skin feeling refreshed. I enjoyed how soft it made my skin, and my skin just felt happy. Also, I have rather dry skin and this product didn't leave it feeling dry (I was a little worried because of the witch hazel), and was actually rather moisturizing. So yay for that.
However, there was one rather large problem.. It made my skin look terrible!! And I do mean terrible. I have pretty nice skin most days but after removing the mask I was appalled. My skin was really shiny through the T-Zone, and really really blotchy and angry looking along the sides of my face. I didn't know what to make of it. It was soft to the touch, it felt lovely, but it looked awful.
I know I look terrible in this picture (I was rather displeased with the angry skin) but if you look around my jaw line to the hollows of my cheek and around the temple I have little bits of red spiderwebbed all over the place. This is NOT normal for me, and I was a little nervous that I was going to have some sort of crazy allergic reaction. But this was it. My skin looks fine today, I couldn't tell you exactly how long it took for the redness to fade as I went to sleep shortly after using the mask.
So yeah, the mask was uncomfortable to wear, and made my skin look super angry and shiny. But at least it's soft and supple? Idk. According to Influenster these masks sell for under $2 USD, and I would NOT repurchase. Til next time!

  1. Wow, that really is not like your normal skin tone. You have such an even tone usually! Thanks for the review

    1. Yeah, it freaked me out a little. My skin is a little on the sensitive side, so I'm thinking this was just a little harsh for my skin.

    1. I have ultra dry skin, and I think this was probably just the wrong type of mask for my skin type. They have a chocolate mask that's supposed to be really hydrating that I would like to try as so many people rave about this brand.
