It'll kill me if I have to wait until Monday to know if we got this business right. But anyway, this is actually a review post, so let's get to it. The product I'm reviewing today is Cover Girl Lash Blast Luxe in Black Platinum. The price on this product varies from place to place, but I've seen it between $7 and $8 USD.
Disclaimer: I purchased this product with my own funds. I am not being paid or compensated by the company in question. The opinions here are entirely my own.
I do want to say that I really like the packaging here. There's a cap on the bottle so the wand is separate and clean, which makes it really easy to see what the head looks like.
I do like the color of the container, it's a bit girly but it sticks out from my other mascaras so it's easy for me to find. It's also rather bulky, which doesn't really do it for me, but it doesn't really bother me, so whatever.
And then there's the wand. I am not a fan of really thick mascara wands, and this one is really thick. Because it's so large, I find it rather difficult to apply mascara on my bottom lashes and the lashes towards the inner part of my eye. And it has the little rubber pokey things instead of the more standard bristles, which I'm also not overly fond of generally.
Alright, you should know that I am a total mascara snob. It's one of those prodcuts where I really don't mind paying a bit more for a better product. I bought this mascara on impulse when I was grocery shopping as it was one of the Lash Blast mascaras that people are raving about and it's a shimmery black. I recently picked up a glitter black eyeliner from Sephora (to see my review on the eyeliner click here) and I figured it would probably compliment the liner more than a straight black mascara.
I wasn't blown away by the formula of the mascara, but it's pretty nice. In the Cover Girl description they claim that this is the blackest black LashBlast formula infused with shimmer. In this case it's platinum shimmer, and it is definitely not super black. It ends up looking like a soft black, and I can't see the shimmer though it is rather, for lack of a better word, shiny. I quite like the color, softer blacks tend to look a bit better on me being that I have a very light complexion. But if you're expecting an intense black, you probably won't be too happy.
Cover Girl's description also said that the "giant brush blasts lashes to their boldest." I'm assuming that this means that this mascara should lengthen and thicken lashes, and it does a decent job of doing just that.
The only real issue I have with the mascara, aside from the size of the wand, is that you have to really wiggle the wand when applying the avoid clumping. I think that with a different wand that issue would be resolved though. The formula is pretty solid.
So basically this mascara isn't phenomenal, but it's a nice product for the price. I think it looks nice, it doesn't make my eyes angry, and it does what it's supposed to do. It just doesn't go the extra mile to make me love it.
So will I repurchase this mascara? Probably not. I have at least 3 other mascaras right now that do so much more for my lashes than this. And again, I don't mind paying extra for mascara. I'm just trying to branch out and see if I can't find a cheaper mascara that I love.
Would I recommend this mascara? Yeah, depending on what you're looking for. If you don't want to spend a lot on mascara and you're looking for a good mascara, this would probably fit the bill. So long as you like the colors. They're all shimmers in this line.
This ends my review for today, and I hope you liked it. If there are other drugstore mascaras that you think are awesome, let me know so I can put them in my 'Must Try' list.

That eyeliner has to be the most gorgeous colour I've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteDid you get a tracking number for the shipping? Sounds like all the details are in there, you'll have to fill this green customs sticker and attach it to the package, declaring the value (write "Gift - no commercial value" in your case). Don't worry about it, USPS is one of the more efficient postal services x

Thank goodness I did it right. You just gave me some serious ease of mind.
DeleteIt looks great on you! I'm a mascara snob too. Lately I can't find one up to my expectations. Even Clinique has let me down in spite of its high price! Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteLots of love

Thanks! And it really is hard to find great mascara. I have a few that I really like, but I'm still waiting to find that one perfect mascara.
DeleteShare the names of those few, please ;)
DeleteI really like Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! and I like the Sephora Collection Full Action Extreme Effect mascara. I favor the Sephora mascara at the moment, but it's not readily available to you.
DeleteBut I do have some friends who are also mascara snobs, and they really like BADgal mascara from Benefit. I haven't tried this one yet, but I really want to.
Hope that was of some help. :)
